I really did something stupid over the weekend. I was helping out at a church youth group cookout and some of the kids asked if I would play basketball with them. So you probably know where this is going. I ended up playing and after playing for about an I came down on someone's foot and sprained my ankle. It is puffed up pretty good and it was hard to walk on but is feeling better today. I am not sure how long it will take to get back to running but I want to make sure that I let it heal right. If anyone has any experience with this I would love to hear how long before you were able to start running again. This comes at a really bad time because I was pumped up after running the half on Sat then to have this setup back. I am hoping that I can do some biking and strength training soon so I don't slip back to far. So for now it is just following the RICE program and see how it goes.

Sorry to hear about your ankle. If you have an ankle brace, wrap or tape, use it for support and compression right now. Take lots of ibuprofen. I have a buddy who did the same thing the weekend before on a run and it was bad enough that he thought he broke it (he didn't). The Dr. put him in an air cast for a couple of days. He was running again by the end of last week after taping it and just doing easy runs. So, just listen to your body and follow RICE and see how you are feeling later in the week. Take a short easy run if you think you can, but do it with tape/wrap for support.

Jeff, thanks for the info. This sounds a little better than what I was expecting. I hope that I can have simular results and get back out there quickly. I read on your blog that you are getting ready for the Ogden marathon. I hope everything goes good and you knock down a great time. Looks like your training is right on track.

Thanks, I am looking forward to the race. Good luck with your recovery.
