It was a beautiful morning to run (57) and I did a medium long run today. I felt good this morning and started off easy the first few miles. The legs felt good so I gradually picked up the pace as I went along. After 10 miles, since I was feeling good I decided to pick it up some more and ran 3 miles at MP. It was good to be able to run faster at the end and I was glad the legs felt good after yesterday's workout. It is strange how the body goes through ups and downs. After running hard yesterday I was expecting the legs to be a little stiff/tired this morning and it is actually just the opposite. I guess I shouldn't try to figure it out but just flow with it.

Nice medium long run. That's a great run after the hard miles yesterday. Your impressive on your runs, and the dedication your putting in will allow you to succeed fair above what you think you can do.

Wow, you guys are good for my confidence! Now if I could just start believing it myself. I am starting to feel better so I guess the miles are starting to pay off.

Jim - With a marathon you have to go in knowing you have confidence, and your going to succeed. Because this is what gets you through the tough miles. You have to have confidence in the hard training you've done and know that you've done it, accomplished it, and it will take over in the marathon. This is what I've learned.

Being nervous is perfectly normal and it gives you energy.

Thanks Kory that is very good advice. I am new to this marathon thing but you are right about the mental aspect. To me it is such an unknown going into the race. I am finding it hard to properly set my expectations and decide on pace for the race. I feel like I have made big improvements fitness wise but then when I have tired some longer faster runs they have been much harder/slower than I expected. At this point I am leaning toward being more conservative in the marathon but it will be disappointing if at the end I feel like I had more in the tank. Any advice is appreciated!

Jim, I have found it useful to go into a marathon with 3 goals: 1) If everything goes absolute perfect; 2) What you think you are realistically trained up for; 3) What you would settle for and still be happy. Ideally, this should be about a 10-15 window between the 3 goals, but you have to work the goals of for you and your expectations.
